Classes and Workshops:

Learn the basics or advance your studio skills in a variety of mediums from instructors who are artists themselves!

There is a limited number of spaces available in each class. Every student must register and pay in advance in order to be included in the class. Payments are non-refundable unless the class is canceled by TASI due to not reaching the minimum number of students.

Intro to Ink Pen

Are you interested in cartoons, video games, comics, and graphic novels? Learn the fundamentals of drawing with ink pens from graphic novel author and game designer Gonzalo Alvarez! This two hour class is great for any beginning artists aged 12 years and older who want to learn how to use ink pens and illustrate basic character and background designs.

All materials will be provided, but students may bring their own. Wearing white is not recommended!

Clay: Handbuilding

Over the course of six sessions, students will learn handbuilding techniques in clay, as well as glazing and raku firing, from master ceramist Greg Busceme, Sr. Take home your very own ceramic creations at the end of the course! This class is for adults age 16+ only. All materials provided.

Watercolor Wednesday

Learn the basics of painting with watercolor, including color theory and technique with your instructor Virginia Johnson. This special two-hour weeknight class session is designed for beginners in the art of watercolor, ages 13 and up, and is open to more experienced artists to continue practice or build on their skills. All materials provided for use in classroom! Recommended to bring an apron or clothes you don’t mind getting stained.

Stained Glass Classes

Beginner Stained Glass w/ Copper Foil

Learn the basics of stained glass construction using copper foil with instructor David Worsham. This six-hour hands-on session is designed for beginners in the art of stained glass, ages 18 and up. All materials provided for use in the workshop. Students will take home a finished work of art! Closed toed shoes required, long sleeves and full length pants recommended for safety. Please bring water to stay hydrated, as the class is held in an non-air-conditioned studio. Warning: will be working around shards of glass.

Intermediate Stained Glass w/ Copper Foil

Expand your knowledge of stained glass construction using copper foil with instructor David Worsham. This six-hour hands-on session is designed for those who have previous experience working with stained glass (i.e. having taken at least one beginner class previously), ages 18 and up. Students will take home a finished work of art! Closed toed shoes required, long sleeves and full length pants recommended for safety. Please bring water to stay hydrated, as the class is held in an non-air-conditioned studio. Warning: will be working around shards of glass.

A number of tools and materials will need to be purchased for this class. Please email education@artstudio.org to ask for the material list.

Intro to Film Photography & Darkroom

During the four sessions over two weekends, photographer James Blaign Rambo will teach beginner-level students the ins and outs of using a film camera, developing images in the darkroom, and printing black and white photographs. The class includes an outing to capture photos outdoors and students will keep their own prints. Chemicals will stain clothes, please dress accordingly. Long sleeves and close- toed shoes also required. All materials provided, but students may bring their own 35mm film camera if they wish. Ages 18+ only.
