#FOMO – Chew on some Hot Grits

words and photos by Lige Menard

Damn August, you sure are a sexy month.  This Virgo Viking swears you’ll always be his calendar girl, and Mmmhmm sweet Auggie your hot, but not too spicy. Speaking of heat, let me quench some parched FOMO, and ramble on about how I got to CHEW on some HotGrits Aug. 7th @ the Logon Cafe.

First to mention, but second in the line-up, Atlanta based trio, CHEW.  Chomping together elements of psyche and prog rock with an often downbeat tempo, their acidic synth jazz- goo oozes out the speakers, and on down to your sneakers. Dreadlocked Sarah Wilson is one of my favorite drummers hitting the skins today.  Her sticks and locks go from near madness to a doomy stroll seamlessly. Check the band out in your favorite stream, or at 3DCHEW.com.

Now for some steamy local news. Playing their long awaited first show was local all-star group HotGrits!  Sorry cats if I can’t help ya from FOMO’n all over this mouth watering bowl of southern psychedelic bluesy goodness .

Zach Feemster laid down his unique, modern blind lemon lightning licks, and ole son even channeled a bit of Ray Charles with his shades and head swaying mastery. Picking lead like a stank face Stevie Ray was Mr. Hot Stuff, Brian Lacroix. His clean yet gritty solos generate a roadhouse level of back alley cool. These boys got funk in the trunk, and their jams are finger licking good.

Well… now comes the time where I expose my enamored fanboy feels. Miss Latricia Badgett, the soul in your song kisses my heart’s bruises, and you have mighty medicine. The raw unapologetic power of your voice keeps me hanging onnn!

Hey gang thanks for checking in to see what happens after the boys of summer are gone, and remember every new semester is some other summer’s end.
