for the record: Living In Darkness

album review by Evan LeBouef

Hey y’all, this month we are going to take a listen to the new LP released by Austin indie group Indoor Creature.

Indoor Creature is a 6 piece group composed of your typical rock band plus some horns and auxiliary instruments which started as a solo project back in 2015. If you needed a soundtrack for the indie movie playing inside your head, this summer you have found it.

The second track American Dream puts you instantly in a trance with visions of hanging out at the beach with your oldest friends with beverages in hand. Some songs off of Living in Darkness feel like falling in love for the first time all over again. The new viral trend this summer will be listening to this album in full and trying to not sway, bob your head, or groove to any part. Although these tunes are inspired and feature ideas about climate change, capitalist control, and the idea of our inevitable death the sounds and timbres make it more bearable while we work to fight for justice and solutions to worldwide problems.

If you find yourself in the Central Texas/ Austin area in the next year, I would highly recommend seeking out an Indoor Creature show. You will not be disappointed. Living in Darkness was released in 2021 on The Record Machine.

Remember, stay safe, and keep spinning.
