High Street to host Presley Landry paintings

The High Street Gallery will host an exhibition of paintings by Presley Landry, 7-10 p.m., Nov. 17. The gallery is located in Victoria House, 2110 Victoria St. in Beaumont.

“High Street Gallery has been spotlighting up-and-coming Southeast Texas artists for five years now, and I’m excited to have Presley’s first solo show as our final exhibition in the gallery,” Olivia Busceme, High Street director, said. “Presley’s work has been quickly developing as she continually produces beautiful work.

“We’re really looking forward to how she uses the space and expect this to be a perfect time for people to own a piece of her work.”

Entry is free and the work will be for sale. Refreshments will be available at the event.

Eighteen-year-old, self-taught Southeast Texas native Landry will be showing paintings and mixed media drawings on wood and paper, mostly centered on figure drawing with a focus on shape.

“I like to take influence from the people and situations around me,” Landry said. “Though my art is personal, I hope the audience finds it personal to them as well, and leave with the truth that everyone can find their passion.”

Landry says she’s also found a lot of influence and development of her style by attending the weekly life drawing sessions at The Art Studio, Inc, where she recently became a tenant.

“This exhibit will show me exploring paint in a looser way,” she said. “My paintings tend to be a time-intensive labor of love that, by the time I finish a piece, I’m unable to part with. Since my ultimate goal is to be a working artist, I’m trying to find a more relaxed, accelerated approach without sacrificing attention to detail.”
