in the pop-up: Sam Daleo, Jr. and Laura Lee Scott “Seeking Beauty; Portal to the Transcendent”

Artists Sam Daleo, Jr. and Laura Lee Scott are exhibiting in the Art Studio, Inc.’s  Pop-Up Gallery in November. They are Lamar University educated artists with a shared appreciation for beauty often found in nature or architecture. In their show, “Seeking Beauty; Portal to the Transcendent,” Daleo’s explorations are in pastel and colored pencil, while Scott seeks out beauty through photography, watercolor, charcoal and sculpture. Their works dovetail, dare we say, beautifully together. Their show will be opening on First Thursday, November 4th, 2021 and gallery will be open noon – 5pm and with a small reception 5- 8pm.

“By the time I was five, I had discovered my talent for drawing and have been drawing ever since. Even at an early age, I thought of my ability to draw as a gift – a wonderful way to express myself. This series of landscapes is part of a larger body of work on a theme I have returned to many times over the years: the beauty of the landscape expressed in pastel and colored pencil, perfect media for drawing and painting at the same time.” -Sam Daleo, Jr.

Laura Lee Scott “My Eden” 1998

“In my search for beauty, I am inspired by the patina of age and the play of light and shadow on architectural surfaces. I love painting, drawing, and design work. Photography is the medium which I have been most capable of practicing through busy years of teaching, especially now that digital technology makes it so accessible. I love a painterly surface. I look for some transient, obscure, and unusual “artifact” that I can share through image making. I can hardly get through any day without making a design from some trivia I find. I am attracted to what would seem inconsequential, but expresses in its being something beautiful. My desire in my artwork is to feature that beauty or enigma that would otherwise be overlooked.” -Laura Lee Scott
