Local son and artist, Lynn Sweat shows support for TASI’s Raise the Roof effort

In 2021, Lynn Sweat, Lamar alumn and early supporter and collaborator of The Art Studio, Inc. has gifted dozens of works to help Raise the Roof at TASI.

Sweat as a staff member at The Redbird,
the Lamar student paper at the time he was attending.

Lynn Sweat, fine art painter and commercial artist, is most widely known for his illustrations of the children’s book series, Amelia Bedelia, for over 30 years. Sweat grew up in Southeast Texas and his artistic ability was fostered at an early age by the local art community.

There is a sense of mystery and implied narrative in Sweat’s paintings. His characters and settings can conjure more questions than they give answers. The light layers of paint add up slowly, building intrigue.

Fifty percent of each purchase of a Lynn Sweat painting from TASI goes towards roof improvements. Sweat’s art donations have helped TASI reach its first year goal along with donations of dozens of local artists and the generous support of the Estate of DJ Kava and the EDAREN Foundation.

All the works pictured above are available as of February 2022.
