TASIMJAE entries accepted March 25-28

Galveston Arts Center’s Nance named as juror for Studio’s annual membership show

BEAUMONT — Submissions for The Art Studio, Inc. Members Jurored Art Exhibition (TASIMJAE) will be accepted in person, March 25-28 at 720 Franklin in downtown Beaumont. The show will open with a free reception 7-10 p.m. April 4.

Entry is open to all members in good standing of The Art Studio and memberships may be obtained with submissions. Membership in The Art Studio begins at $35 for adults. Student memberships begin at $20 with valid ID.

Dennis Nance, curator at the Galveston Arts Center, has been named juror for this year’s show.

TASI director Greg Busceme said that the exhibition is a chance to showcase the work of The Studio’s membership.

“We get people to show work they haven’t shown before and we are also interested in getting new memberships from the constituents out there,” he said.

First prize is $500 plus an exhibition of the artist’s work in May 2021. Prizes are also awarded for second and third places.

“We really encourage artists, whatever their experience, to enter the show,” Busceme said. “It’s really important that artists of all kinds show their work and get feedback from the public.”

Sajeela Siddiq won TASIMJAE 2019 and will display her work at TASI in May.

Last year’s show was judged by Caitlin Clay, registrar at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, and first place was awarded to Sajeela Siddiq from Lake Charles, La. She will be The Studio’s exhibiting artist in May.

The Art Studio’s membership show features work by artists from all over the country working in all media. It regularly draws jurors of the highest caliber, a testament to the quality of the work on display, Busceme said.

Stephan Malick, TASI board chairman, said TASIMJAE is his favorite show of The Studio’s season.

“TASIMJAE offers the chance to see the unexpected,” he said. “You never know what to expect until the doors open and the submissions roll in. It is a chance for relatively unknown artists to hang side by side with established creatives — and often, they are the most exciting pieces.”

Artists working in all media are encouraged to attend, and past winners have
