The Art Studio, Inc. will close its 2017-18 exhibition season with an eclectic collection of creations from around the community.

Submissions are being accepted for The Alternative Show, a first-come, first-served art exhibition on display June 2-23. The show will open June 2 with a reception, 7-10 p.m. at TASI’s gallery, 720 Franklin St. in downtown Beaumont.

Entry is free and submissions will be accepted from noon to 5 p.m., May 29-June 1. All works must be show ready, and wall pieces must be wired (no sawtooths).

There is a limit of two pieces by each artist, and work must be delivered in person.

“This is a great opportunity for artists of all ages to exhibit their work in a relaxed setting,” Stephan Malick, TASI board member, said. “There are no judges, and everyone is accepted, so it is a great chance to have your work shown in a gallery.

The Alternative Show is traditionally a show where anything goes.

“We have had work that represents all ages and all levels of experience,” Malick said. “Many local artists have used this opportunity to first show their work to a wide audience.”

The work is for sale and is a great opportunity for collectors to pick up work from up-and-coming artists who may be new to the scene, as well as established artists who may be experimenting with different ideas. Tenant painter Andy Coughlan said he will have a few collages in the show.

“I like to use The Alternative Show as a chance to try some different things, or to return to some old ideas and see what I can do with it — to do something alternative to my usual work,” he said. “Many times that experimentation will lead to some interesting techniques that I can incorporate into my work to push the concepts forward.”
