The Art Studio, Inc. is celebrating its Ruby Anniversary with a glamorous Beaux Arts Ball on January 21, 2023!  We are thrilled to have Jackie Simien as this year’s honorary chairperson.

Celebrating 40 years of service to the community of Southeast Texas, the Art Studio has made its mark on many levels. Our first goals in 1983 included developing a gallery, classes, and community outreach – vital programs which we work to make available to the public with the help of supporters like you.

In our early years, we were present at almost every community festival with demonstrations of pottery and hands-on clay with the children, and our facility quickly became a regular place for schools to visit and utilize our clay studio. The walls we built for our first location on Neches Street in 1983 are the same walls that make up our main gallery today. Now The Art Studio could be on a national stage as a good example of an arts organization thriving in a small community. Our recent revival of the ceramics symposium Gumbo Clayfest reflects the opportunity for visiting artists to experience what we enjoy every day!

We have always worked to advocate for and assist artists in their creative pursuits of the visual, performing, and literary arts. Visual artists are served through exhibitions, sales opportunities, affordable studio space, and offering a weekly drawing group, as well as classes taught by qualified instructors in ceramics, printmaking, and painting. In the performing arts, we offer the opportunity for any musician who creates their own original music to perform in a showcase called Band Nite. Writing, photography, and poetry submissions are published in our Studio Ink magazine. Thoughtcrime Live is an open forum for poets to share their work aloud, and Calliope’s Circle is our new monthly workshop in creative writing. In addition, we have a history of incubating fledgling theater groups, dance clubs, and the occasional movie production. We will always advocate for the creativity of our artists and have a place for everyone to benefit from the vast ways art can make us well and happy.

Without a doubt, The Art Studio is here to stay, making its mark as an incubator for all the arts and the artists who create them. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to TASI this year, and plan to join us for this momentous occasion. Our planning committee is also seeking in-kind contributions of food and other refreshments for the event.

I hope you will share our vision and build on our success and enthusiasm in what TASI is and what it stands for. Your sponsorship and participation allow us the honor of serving this community.

–Greg Busceme, Sr.
